A G clamp is traditionally used in wood working for holding pieces of wood in place whilst being glued etc and come in many sizes.

As the name suggests it resembles the letter G and has a gun like handle that when you squeeze, the ratchet mechanism pulls the clamp together to hold your work in place.
The action is not unsimilar to that of a mastic gun, that you would use for putting a bead of sealant around your bath.
