Should I cut tracks vertically or horizontally when using track cutters?
If track cutters are your weapon of choice to cut model railway track with, you may be wondering which way they should be used for the best cut, horizontally or vertically?
The best advice is to always read the instructions supplied with your tool as the manufacturers are the best placed to advise on the subject, however, if the instructions are either vague or missing, it's generally advised that you cut track from top to bottom to maintain a smooth railhead.
The main exception to the rule is when using vertical track cutters, as these are designed specifically for use with a track that's in situ on a layout.
