Which OO gauge Tracksettas create which radius bends?
Tracksettas are curved metal gauges that slot between the rails of flexible track to help modellers create smooth curves and bends during laying. They come in various radii so can be used to create a range of curves with varying severity, but which ones are most comparable to the traditional radius 1, 2, 3 and 4 set track sections a lot of modellers are accustomed to?
Sadly, the answer to that question is not as straight forward as many would hope. Tracksettas follow a different set of rules to set track sections and are generally used by modellers wanting gentler, bespoke or transitioning curves, but to give you an idea, the smallest OO gauge Tracksetta has a radius of 18" (457 mm) which lies somewhere between radius 2 and 3 with radii of 438 and 505 mm respectively.
The next increment up is a 21" (533 mm) Tracksetta which falls between radius 3 and 4 set track curves with 505 and 571 mm radii respectively.
From there, the radius of Tracksettas only gets gentler and comprises: 24" (610 mm), 30" (762 mm), 36" (915 mm), 42" (1067 mm), 48" (1219 mm) and 60" (1524 mm).
