What does AFV mean in military scale modelling?
AFV stands for Armoured Fighting Vehicle. These versatile military machines come in many shapes, sizes and forms but generally are manoeuvrable, have armour plating and often have some sort of weaponry incorporated into their design.
Armoured Fighting Vehicles have been around since the First World War with the introduction of armoured cars, the first tanks and self-propelled guns. They are used for virtually everything from assaults and launching mortars to troop transport and have been integral to military forces worldwide ever since.
Examples of commonly used AFVs include the Challenger, Warrior, Bulldog, Stormer, Fox Hound, Husky and Mastiff from the UK, while the US uses Abrams, Bradleys, Strykers, Cougars and Buffalos to name just a few.
