What is a push to break switch?
A push-to-break switch is a button that can be pressed to break a circuit. The break in the circuit is only effective for as long as the button is physically pressed in because the switches do not lock into position, current will again flow once the button is released. Push-to-break switches are often used in industry to temporarily halt a manufacturing process.
Push-to-break switches are not used much on model railways, but is has been known for some modellers with small children to install them to provide an emergency stop function on the layout should the little ones get a little carried away with a very expensive locomotive!
