Do cambers help model trains traverse a bend?
In real life, railway tracks tilt slightly as they negotiate curves. The tilt is known by many names, including a camber, a cant and a superelevation. Its purpose is to help trains traverse bends quicker and without causing excessive wear to the track or wheel flanges. But would a camber help model trains in the same way?
The short answer is no. Although one can not argue the physics of a camber helping railed vehicles to round a curve, model trains are so light that it's simply not needed.
That's not to say that they don't look great though. So if you want one for visual effect, go for it, just be mindful not to overdo the elevation or you may end up inadvertantly tipping your train off the tracks!
