Why is it a bad idea to spray paint when it is cold?
The colder it gets, the more viscous paint becomes. That means it gets thicker and stickier so becomes less useful as paint and struggles to produce an even finish.
Ideally, you should make sure that it's above 10 degrees Celsius (50 degrees Fahrenheit) when spraying paint. As well as producing an uneven finish, spray paints will not adhere as well in cold conditions causing further problems and even cracking further down the line.
It's also worthwhile noting that if using spray cans, they should be stored at room temperature as extremely cold environments can cause them to become unstable and crack.
If your spray cans have been subjected to a cold night in the garage or shed, they should be warmed up to room temperature gently and gradually indoors before use.
