How do I remove raised panel lines?
These days, panel lines are something most modellers desire, but some older plastic kits came with raised panel lines, and many modellers like to replace them with recessed ones instead, but how is that done?
The process of removing raised panel lines is, fortunately, an easy one and requires little more than sanding them. You should start off using a fairly coarse grade of sandpaper (300-400) and work your way up to around 1200. The important discipline to embrace is to take your time and not press on too hard. You can always sand more off if need be, it's a little harder to put it back though!
Once your panel lines are removed, a tool called a panel line engraver can be used to create new recessed lines. Again a light hand and lots of patience are needed, but the effects are worth it.
