What is Vallejo metal medium?
Metal Medium is an acrylic paint by Vallejo that can be mixed with other acrylic paints to give them a metallic effect. It can be used with an airbrush but may require thinning a little first.
Vallejo describes Metal Medium as 'an acrylic medium formulated with mica, which can be mixed with acrylic colours to create an iridescent lustre or applied by itself for a silvery iridescent effect'.
Various effects are achievable by mixing different amounts of Metal Medium with your paint. Using only 10% Metal Medium, for example, will produce slightly glistening paint, while a 50/50 mix will produce paint worthy of the most futurist wargame robot.
Metal Medium will lighten the shade of your colour when used in greater concentrations, so that's something to bear in mind if you're considering giving it a go, but otherwise, Metal Medium can produce some truly amazing effects.
