What is a correct height for a station platform in OO gauge?
The standard height for a station platform in the UK is three-feet (915 mm) above rail height. That equates to a correct OO gauge platform height of 12mm above rail height.
Many ready-to-plant plastic platform sections are a couple of millimetres above that height when used with track secured directly to a baseboard. However, if used with track sited on a sponge underlay, the same platform sections will fall a little short of the desired height. Only track secured to a cork underlay provides an accurate platform height and will be pretty much spot on (assuming you are using code 100 track).
Now, before you all rush off to shave your platforms, the discrepancy only amounts to around 2 mm either way, and that equates to just 150 mm in real life. We'll let you decide if that's an issue.
