What is an eggbeater drill?
An 'eggbeater' is a type of hand drill so-called because its appearance resembles an egg whisk.
Officially known as a wheel brace, these types of drill are favoured by carpenters and modellers alike due to their ability to create neat and accurate holes in wood and other hard materials.
Smaller versions of the tool are available to accommodate the thin and fragile drill bits often used by modellers that can easily snap when used in powerful electrically operated drills.
Their use in the hobby is still widespread amongst traditional modellers but for finer work and drilling holes in soft materials such as plastic, hand drills such as pin vices and push drills are equally, if not more, favoured.
