Electricity is inherently dangerous and should always be treated with respect.
But with model railways the voltage is so low and there is no risk of electric shock at all. You can touch the track and you will not feel anything (and will not hurt yourself).
The transformer in the power supply with convert the electricity to a low voltage making it safe for all.
So you can enjoy the hobby with your children, knowing that it is perfectly safe and no more dangerous than a video game.
PS: Obviously, if electric train sets were dangerous, they would not be sold and definitely not marketed as a children toy.
