How do you drill holes to fit bearings in a bogie?
Most modellers will be aware that the performance of a rough-running wagon or coach can be improved with the fitting of bearings. But how do you drill the holes needed to fit them?
If a hole in your bogie requires widening to facilitate a bearing, a special tool named a 'bearing reamer' is what you need.
A bearing reamer looks a little like a wheel-less axle with pointed ends. It simply slots into your bogie in the same way a wheelset would and a gentle turning action will allow the tool to gently ream the hole to the required diameter. Your new bearing should then fit snuggly into the hole.
Bearing Reamers are available for OO, HO and N gauge rolling stock.
