How much paint should I put in my airbrush?
Paint goes an incredibly long way when used in an airbrush, so it's best to use just a few drops at a time to avoid unnecessary wastage and a messy cleanup operation later.
Successful airbrushing is all about experience and technique and eventually, you will get a feel for how much paint is required for a specific job. In the early days though, it is always best to put just a few drops of paint into your airbrush as you can always put more in, but, taking it out again can be messy and could even result in paint being wasted.
The amount of paint that you will need to use will also depend on whether you are going to be adding any thinners, which in turn, depends largely on the size of the nozzle you are using and whether you are applying a wash or a full-bodied coat of paint.
If you are going to be adding thinners to your paint, then it makes sense to be even more frugal with your measurements for the same reason that you can always add more if needed.
The best tip for anybody new to using an airbrush is to always do a test patch on a scrap piece of card first. You will learn a lot about your airbrush and the paint mix used by doing this and even accomplished airbrush users do this before going anywhere near their prized models.
