What is NMRA?
NMRA stands for the National Model Railroad Association which is an organisation in North America that was set up to regulate and monitor standards within the model railroad industry.
Founded in 1935, the NMRA's main function is to introduce and maintain common standards for model railroad manufacturers and enthusiasts to work to, therefore, ensuring compatibility across brands and products.
A lot of the work undertaken by the organisation has been to introduce recommended practices in areas such as scale, wheel dimensions and the introduction of DCC. NMRA have worked closely with their European counterparts MOROP during the development of DCC to ensure harmonised standards on both sides of the Atlantic.
NMRA is a non-profit making organisation and has over 20,000 members.
