Are cheap hobby knives any good?
When it comes to hobby knives, the expensive part of the knife is often the bits surrounding the blade and not the blade itself.
Hobby knives are essentially surgical blades repackaged for the modelling world. That's not a dirty manufacturer's trick, it is simply the case that surgical blades are brilliant for what modellers use them for.
The repackaging of such products is definitely in the modeller's interests because by tapping into an already large and established industry, prices are kept reasonable.
There are without doubt more expensive modelling knives available, and they come with features such as ergonomic handles and the facility to interchange blades. Whether or not those features are of interest to you is your quandary, but should you opt for a cheaper knife, it will tackle the job just fine.
