What is the best way to connect portable baseboards together?
Many modellers have enjoyed great success using hinges with the pivot pin removed to connect portable baseboard sections together.
Split hinges do a great job of lining up portable baseboard sections accurately, although it has to be said, using the original pivot pin to hold the two halves together when in situ can make this method a little stiff to operate. Try using a suitably thick nail, screw or another metal rod that fits well but is not too snug as a solution. A spare suitably sized Allen key (with a right-angle at the top) would make a great makeshift connector with a handle!
Another successful method for holding baseboard sections together is a simple bolt, like the type used on a lavatory door. If opting for this method, make sure it is tight-fitting to ensure proper alignment.
Just about any catch, latch or bolt used to align or secure two surfaces repetitively will do the job of aligning two baseboard sections. The key factor would appear to be using a solution that matches the bulk and weight of your baseboard sections and is durable enough to cope with the frequency you expect to be erecting and dismantling your layout.
