Gn15 is an exciting scale for smaller projects with quirky or unusual engines and wagon.
Gn15 is a combination of garden railway which is G scale (1:22.5) running on OO gauge track. The 15 in the Gn15 is the width of the prototype track in inches.
This is representative of a miniature ridable railway and also the minimum gauges used during the first world war for carrying troops and supplies to the front line.
It was originally designed for quarries and mines for transporting men and materials to the coal face and removing the coal and stones.
Using the narrowest gauge track with larger trains, it was possible to carry a maximum load equivalent to a standard wagon without tipping off the track.
This also made the laying of track much faster as the sections could be pre-fabricated before laying.
