The Seafire was a navalised version of the Supermarine Spitfire. In order to configure the aircraft for carrier-based operations, it was fitted with an arrester hook and folding wings. Although a very accomplished dogfighter the Seafire suffered from poor range compared to other fighters specifically designed for carrier operations. This meant that frequently the type was used for fleet defence rather than offensive missions. The Seafire Mk. XV was developed from the earlier Mark. III and utilised the more powerful Rolls Royce Griffon VI engine. It entered service in 1945 and was initially issued to Naval Squadrons equipping carriers of the British Pacific Fleet. This kit includes examples that served on the carriers HMS Glory and HMS Implacable.
