More info

Arma Hobby Hawker Hurricane Mk.I 'Navy Colours' in 1:72 Scale. At the start of WWII many of the carrier-borne aircraft equipping Royal Navy squadrons were obsolete. Attacks on the vulnerable Atlantic Convoys by Luftwaffe aircraft based in occupied France indicated the need for a capable sea-borne fighter. The First Sea Hurricanes were the Mk.Ia, which were hastily converted for service at sea. These were initially used on catapult equipped merchant ships known as CAM Ships. The aircraft was catapulted off as needed but was not able to return to the ship and so on completion of its sortie had to either divert ashore or ditch close the convoy to ensure the pilot was rescued. The Mk.Ib was fitted with catapult spools and an arrestor hook. This meant that the aircraft could now operate from Royal Navy Aircraft Carriers. The type entered service with the RN in 1941 and offered much needed airborne defence for the convoys. It also provided valuable fleet defence for the Royal Navy Carrier Force in the Mediterranean covering Operation Pedestal in August 1942 and Operation Torch off North Africa in November 1942.
