The 1959 Plymouth Belvedere, named after the beautiful lake in California, was a full-size car that was offered in a variety of body styles, including a four-door sedan, two-door hardtop, convertible, and station wagon. It was powered by a 318 cubic inch V8 engine as standard, with larger engines available as options. The Belvedere was positioned as a mid-level car in Plymouth's lineup, between the less expensive Savoy and the more luxurious Fury.
It was known for its stylish design and comfortable ride. It also featured a number of innovative features, such as a push-button transmission and a power steering system that was available as an option.
The Belvedere was a popular choice for police departments and taxi companies and it was featured in a number of movies and TV shows, including the James Dean film "Rebel Without a Cause."
